Section 3
Selection and Assessment of Quality Digital Based OER Language Teaching Resources with LinguAPP

In this section, lecturers will be invited to select and assess the quality of Digital Based OER Language Teaching Resources of their choice with the questionnaire provided by LinguAPP. They will imagine a teaching scenario for which they will customize all its contextual elements. For instance, they will decide, among others, the foreign language, the language level they will aim for (A1, A2, B2, B2, C1 or C2, according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages), the language skill, the academic field and the specific content to be dealt with—for cases of Language for Specific Purposes—or the students’ need.

Then, they will be invited to search for a couple of available online resources that can be purely linguistic or have only a marked linguistically pedagogical focus. Lecturers will have to focus on each of the dimensions provided by the questionnaire in order to answer each of the 30 questions. These answers will provide lecturers with a more informed idea of the quality of the OER selected for the purposes of context-specific needs of their students.

For onsite implementations of this training module, a hands-on approach will be followed, with interactive activities among participants taking place. For instance, lecturers will be encouraged to share the teaching contexts they have devised; to create class groupings, such as per the language chosen, the skill chosen, the level chosen, the academic discipline chosen, etc. This will also allow lecturers to come into contact with the OERs chosen by their partners and assess them in contrast to their own choice. For online only implementations of this training module, a chat utility could be created in which teachers share their experience when carrying out their analyses.
