Project Evro consists of audio-video resources made available to students and trainers as an initiative of the „Babeș-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca, between 2014-2015. Each resource consists of a video and a set of work sheets. In the case of this particular resource, there are two work sheets containing vocabulary related tasks (of the fill in the gap type), listening comprehension tasks (fill-in the gaps, identifying true/false answers), suggestions for speaking activities and even writing tasks adapted to the level indicated (A2). The videos are lively and have a humorous tone which may increase the students’ level of interest and motivation.

Case study

The resource is aimed at medical students; it has many useful exercises, but a drawback is the fat that there are few grammar explanations which are presumed to be offered by the lecturer during the lesson. It is aimed at A2 students and this level is adequately assessed. They can use the resource independently, too, as further individual study with extra exercises. It is captivating, the visuals make it feel like a game and thus enhance motivation and make it easier to be solved by students. The digital format made it very accessible, while the text-image combination complements the lecturer’s necessary additional explanation. Various types of activities can be suggested:
In conversation, students identify the context of communication and the topic, the participants interacting in the dialogue, the relation between them three characteristics of each of the participants
Students are encouraged to identify the health issues mentioned by the actors and explain/define each of them (ex. febră/fever, frisoane/shiver, nas înfundat/a clogged nose, durere în gât/a sore throat, tuse/a cough etc.)
Students are asked to indicate natural home-made remedies they know for each of the symptoms mentioned
Students are asked to indicate what treatments would a MD recommend/prescribe; what speciality should the MD have in each case?
Expected results:
Exposure to contextualized genuine spoken language
Students acquire the specialized vocabulary related to minor ailments, to natural remedies and possibly medicinal plants
The humour of the situation presented encourages students to communicate and enhance students’ motivation

Comments:
Project EVRO offers free access to those interested in learning Romanian as a foreign language to educational resources which consist of interesting videos for didactic purposes for each level. Each resource is associated with corresponding work sheets. However, each video can also be used in activities with groups of students of other levels. The resources are interactive, most of them present dialogues on various topics in various contexts. The worksheets in attractive colourful format and can be used along with the videos. Some of them also include grammar explanations and various exercises.
