The resource provides a full package on the topic of Media, including specific vocabulary and audio material for pronunciation, fill-in exercises for the vocabulary acquired, a reading comprehension task based on genuine topic related texts (the program of Romanian TV channel) with associated questions, two short videos of fragments of Romanian films (detection and action – four other videos – examples of comedy, romance, cartoon and documentary – not accessible!, a few vocabulary related tasks (media genres) and final summative test with tasks from all the 9 units of the section, some of which are related to Unit 5 Mass Media. It provides varied types of materials and tasks and can be used as such for class teaching. Some of the videos are missing, there are no tasks related to the videos.
The resource was tested on a group of 2nd year students, BA, Journalism. The lesson was in online mode. The objectives are clearly presented and easy to understand. Each lesson is well-structured and organized, they include tests aimed at fixating and expanding information and concepts, the visuals are efficient, the style is friendly. The questionnaires/tests are accessible, the focus on the texts and points taught in each of the units. The units include written material (texts), photos, dynamic visuals (videos), audio materials with links to You-tube. Some text or video sections are not available (the videos may have been removed from Youtube). We suggest that the videos used during the units/lessons should the stored in a retrievable form on the Quill platform. Lilia TRINCA, conf.univ., dr. The tasks are logically sequenced and relatively varied, the core vocabulary related to mass-media is associated with visuals to make them accessible. The use of real life materials - the excerpt from the Romanian TV programme – offers contact with genuine language as produced by native speakers. The set of videos, some of which are excerpts of award winning Romanian movies, may raise interest, spark conversation and increase the students’ level of motivation. The tasks or similar materials adapted by the lecturer can be also used as forms of assessment.
