Description

The website gathers together numerous exercises and audiovisual learning material on business, administration, marketing, logistics, human resource management and customer service available online. The website is divided in six thematic sections all including specific materials for each argument and specific professional field. The learning materials are mostly on specific purpose vocabulary, but also more general texts and videos are included. Also links for supporting material and texts are proposed. The material is ideal for autonomous learning of special terms and professional vocabulary or as warm up activity before professional reading and writing tasks. The set of activities proposed is easily accessible and can be used in any order totally or partially.

Case study

The material provided suits well for small student groups of students with good competence of Finnish language. The resource may be used in class as a way of training communicative skills and vocabulary expansion. The terminology presented in the source covers a wide range of topics related to business, administration, marketing, logistics, human resource management and customer service and offers several exercises of different levels. The source is useful also as a follow-up activity on contents previously learnt in class in autonomous learning. The material suits well also for flipped classroom: the students may do readings and watch audiovisual materials before the lesson. As the terminology proposed is very specific the general Finnish skills of the students should be at least level B1. Some of the links proposed in the material do not function correctly; the teacher should check the links before the lesson. The source provides valid material for learner-centered teaching strategies and for written repetition of business and administration related vocabulary.

Guidelines

Every section has specific exercises and texts or audiovisual materials. This guideline example is for Financial governance section:
Step 1 Watch video from link
Step 2. Note all new words and useful phrases
Step 3. Do the exercises on the financial governance vocabulary.

Comments:
The website offers a collection of a wide range of exercises and learning materials easily accessible, intuitive and easy to use for students. Teacher can suggest specific units for students autonomous learning depending on student’s needs. The use of the materials does not require any particular technical tools other than access to internet, though it is not possible to modify contents to adapt or otherwise change contents for specific classroom purposes. The material is structured in basic sections. The exercises give appropriate professional vocabulary and straight feedback on their answers for students; no specific assessments are though available. The exercises suit well for autonomous learning and vocabulary practice and consolidation.
