Description

This guidebook is meant for the students of General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania to improve their Lithuanian in the area of military terminology. It provides the users with useful pieces of advice on how specific terms should be used, what to pay attention to while drafting military documents, designing plans for soldiers’ field training activities, preparing and delivering public speeches, or giving commands during military training.
This guidebook comprises a number of sections related to syntax, morphology, lexis, and accentuation. All the examples are authentic, selected from the participants’ speeches in official ceremonies, everyday communication, training activities, documents, and correspondence. Since the guidebook targets improving students’ language use in compliance with the norms of Standard Lithuanian, it is rendered in such a way that it engages students to think about how the mistaken cases can be corrected and provided in the right way. The structure of the guidebook is also comprised in a language-user-friendly way. The authors of the guidebook expect their publication to contribute to the improvement of military officers’ usage of Lithuanian.

Case study

The Guidebook can be exploited at any time during the class of Lithuanian when students produce or come upon mistaken cases of the Lithuanian language usage. The examples presented in the guidebook also can serve as demonstrative examples of more complicated cases of either lexis, syntax, morphology, or accentuation.

Guidelines

This reference source is advised to be used as supplementary material during Language culture classes while introducing or consolidating new linguistic phenomena in lexis, syntax, morphology, or accentuation.

Comments:
The guidebook provides a huge number of collected mistaken linguistic examples typical of everyday military life in all its spheres and the cases of how the incorrect examples can be improved. Therefore, this teaching material is very flexible and adaptable while analyzing one of another linguistic theme in class.
