Description

The material provided in "Forum für Wirtschaftsdeutsch" is primarily designed for teachers of German as a foreign Language and is a service of the Institut für Internationale Kommunikation e.V. Düsseldorf. Teachers can choose from a variety of material in PDF format. Materials on the topic of "logistics and transport" are divided into three types of exercises: One section has the goal to expande vocabulary, the sections "grammar" and "games" provide corresponding material.
The excersises are arranged according to the level of difficulty. Thus, the vocabulary training begins with basic vocabulary regarding the topic of "traffic" in general. The generic term (traffic) is then narrowed down to sub-areas. Each PDF document dedicated on vocabulary training contains 10 multiple-choice questions with a corresponding answer key. The following sub-areas are covered: road transport, air transport, rail transport.
Short and additional explanations in the answer keys help the student understand why the respective other answer options of a multiple-choice question have to be excluded. An example:
Die Bundesstraße 8 muss in Höhe Wesel wegen Brückenbauarbeiten für einige Stunden ... werden. a) gesperrt b) versperrt c) stillgelegt d) gestillt
Lösungsschlüssel: 1 A stilllegen: einen Betrieb schließen / den Betrieb auf einer Fahrtstrecke einstellen stillen: einen Säugling/ein Kind an der Brust der Mutter trinken lassen etwas versperren: etwas unzugänglich machen, jdm. den Weg versperren
The students thus gains knowledge that goes beyond the covered topic of „logistics and transport“.
The grammar section provides exercises on "relative clauses". The student has to join two sentences by using the correct relative pronoun.
Last but not least, teachers have access to material that enables them to organise a game within a classroom context. "Sag es anders" is very similar to the well-known party game "taboo". The teacher can choose from 150 terms, which are arranged according to difficulty. Detailed instructions with game variants are attached. Players basically have the task of explaining terms to their fellow players. The game focuses on developing the speaking skills.

Case study

The game "Say it differently" is explained in detail in the game description. Not only the game instructions, but also the preparation of the material is explained in detail. As the material is available in Word, the exercise can be changed depending on the level of the students. The indicated playing time of 20 to 60 minutes depends not only on the number of players and their level, but also on the time available in the course, everything is adaptable and wonderfully applicable. The vocabulary given is listed according to level 1,2 and 3 and is easy to sort. As with all games, learners really enjoy using and repeating their vocabulary in this way.

Guidelines

All materials are available either as PDF files or Word documents and can be printed accordingly. As far as the "Vocabulary" section is concerned, all multiple-choice questionnaires are combined in one document, each with the corresponding answer key. No registration is required for full access to all materials. The materials can be used completely independently of each other and according to individual needs. Of course, it is possible to omit individual topics without any problems - the offer does not have to be worked through completely. The game "Say it differently" is very similar to the well-known parlor game "Taboo". The teacher can choose from 150 terms, which are sorted by difficulty. Detailed instructions with game variations are attached. The players basically have the task of explaining terms to their fellow players. Accordingly, the special focus of this game is on the language competence "speaking".

Comments:
Many of the materials provided are arranged by level of difficulty. The teacher can cater to the existing language level of the learners and select the material accordingly. All materials are available as PDF or Word documents and can be easily saved or printed. The document "Flight Extension" provided under "Worksheets and Lesson Outlines" is a complete lesson outline that focuses on extending the core competencies of reading comprehension and speaking. Within the framework of a lesson unit, students can critically examine the topic of airport expansion and complete assignments on related texts. The course is particularly suitable for people who plan to work in the field of logistics and transportation. Also DaF-learners who already have a high language level have the opportunity to expand their vocabulary in a subject-specific way.
