Elävä Suomenlinna (Living Suomenlinna) is a teaching material focused on an unique monument of military architecture, The Fortress of Suomenlinna, included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The material includes Podcast and learning material in pdf-format.
The material is designed to suit distance learning and/or autonomous study, and it offers different learning proposals for 3-5 credits easily adaptable for different purposes by changing the ways of execution or by delimiting the material used or the lengths of the tasks. An indicative time and topic framework has been prepared for each section.
The podcast episode contents are supported by easy and more demanding texts; among them can be found scientific articles, dissertation chapters, researchers’ blog posts and other related documents. The reading list is openly readable online.
The material also proposes different assessment possibilities for teacher.
Elävä Suomenlinna on opetusmateriaali, jonka kohteena on ainutlaatuinen sotilasarkkitehtuurin muistomerkki, Suomenlinnan linnoitus, joka on Unescon maailmanperintöluettelossa. Aineisto sisältää podcastin ja pdf-muotoisen oppimateriaalin.
Aineisto on suunniteltu sopimaan niin etäopiskeluun kuin itsenäiseenkin opiskeluun, ja se tarjoaa erilaisia ja erilaajuisia opintosuosituksia 3-5 opintopistettä varten. Oppimateriaalin osia on helppo mukauttaa eri tarkoituksiin muuttamalla toteutustapoja tai rajaamalla käytettyä materiaalia tai tehtävien pituuksia. Jokaista jaksoa varten on laadittu ohjeellinen kesto ja aihepiiri.
Podcast-jaksojen sisältöä tukevat sekä helpot että vaativammat tekstit. Tekstivalikoimasta löytyy tieteellisiä artikkeleita, väitöskirjoja, tutkijoiden blogiviestejä ja muita niihin liittyviä asiakirjoja. Lukulista on avoimesti luettavissa verkossa.
Materiaali ehdottaa lisäksi erilaisia arviointimahdollisuuksia opettajalle.

Case study

This teaching resource suits the needs of advanced level students of history, architecture, tourism, urban planning and landscape studies and cultural studies. The material presents examples of thematic essay topics for tourism, urban planning and futures studies, cultural studies and landscape studies. Teacher can easily determine the number of credits for the course by modifying the target length of the essays. The podcast series and the material can also be used from the perspective of the humanities in wider sense by considering the podcast as a means of communicating science. The student can choose sections through which he or she becomes acquainted with the purpose of science communication and in general with the accessibility of science. The source presents a very high grade of adaptability due to the great range of material that the teacher can use with student groups. The podcast and the relative material offers an effective type of asynchronous education delivery system and it may also be used as a revision medium instead of textbook.

The technical realization combines podcast and a stable pdf-format flexible for various learning scenarios. The usability is high also for teachers who can adapt this resource to suit different learner groups and specific domains such as history, architecture or communication. The contents proposed are motivating and combines content and language learning in an effective way. The material proposes also a good variety of assessment methods for different contents and units of the material.
Kattava ja mielenkiintoisesti toteutettu oppimateriaali sekä äidinkielisille että edistyneille ulkomaisille opiskelijoille. Materiaalia on helppo soveltaa ja mukauttaa erilaisiin opetustarkoituksiin ja se tarjoaa erilaisia opintokokonaisuuksia. Tekninen toteutus on joustava ja yhdistää podcastin ja vakaaseen pdf-muotoon joka on helppo ladata tai jota voidaan käyttää verkossa. Opettajat voivat helposti valita materiaalista sopivat osat eritasoisille opiskelijaryhmille tai tiettyjen alojen opiskelijoille, kuten historian, arkkitehtuurin tai viestinnän opiskelijoille. Materiaalin sisältö on motivoivaa ja yhdistyy tehokkaasti edistyneen tason kielen oppimiseen. Materiaali tarjoaa myös hyvän valikoiman arviointimenetelmiä kurssisuorituksia varten.
