PROFILE

Irene graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Córdoba in 2007. Thereafter, she did a master on “Animal medicine, health and improvement” and started her PhD studying the immunopathogenesis of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome, a devastating disease for the porcine industry worldwide. In November 2012, she defended her PhD with “Cum Laude” qualification and was awarded with the Special Doctorate Award. Then, she moved to the Institute of Immunology at the University of Veterinary Medicine where she was working as a postdoc widening her knowledge in other livestock diseases. She is professor from the University of Córdoba since 2018, where she is involved in the teaching activities of embryology, systematic anatomy and systematic pathology. During her academic career, she has performed several stays at the University Autonomous of Barcelona, the research institute on Animal Health from Catalonia, the Laboratory of Virology from the University of Ghent and the Institute of Anatomy from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. She has participated in several national and international R&D projects and is author/co-author of more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and 60 technical articles, some of them translated to Portuguese. As professor, she participates in the multilingualism programme from the University of Córdoba and enjoys including new teaching resources in her classes
