Free brochure authored by the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism.
A 24-page richly-illustrated informative and insightful source.
This well-structured source offers substantial information on the topic in standard colloquial Bulgarian with basic, specific and terminological vocabulary.
Information is presented in several sections: 1. Some facts about Bulgaria you ought to know. 2. The mysteries of North-Eastern Bulgaria. 3. A trip to the holy places of Northern Bulgaria. 4. Christian monuments in Northwestern Bulgaria. 5. Serdica (Sofia) is my Rome. 6. Map. 7. The holy monasteries-masterpieces of architecture, art and culture. 8. The mysteries of Southern Bulgaria. 9. Plovdiv. 10. The holy Rhodopes Mountains. 11. The Rupite area. 12. The Southers Black Sea coast. 13. A trip to the holy places of other religious communities: Dzhumaja mosque, the Synagoue in Sofia. 14. Church feasts and traditions.
Its advertising nature notwithstanding, source offers a wealth of factual and photo material which can be used for language study.
The brochure has versions in English French, German, Spanish, which make it usable in different linguistic environments.

Case study

2. Source was tested by the Bulgarian lecturer at the University of Melitopol.
Level: B1 to C1. No.of students: groups of 7-10.
Source was found useful and motivational, as it presents the wealth of Bulgarian heritage in an attractive manner. The topics are well researched, the map is exact and comprehensive.
Students were interested in the variety of religious traditions of the Balkans and answered positively to the questions:
1. Did you like the resources?
2. Were they useful to improve your language skills?
3. Did they increase your motivation to study Bulgarian as LSP?
4. Do they represent an innovative approach to LSP learning.
5. From the technical point of view, are they easy and intuitive to use?
Source was supported by video material (produced by Bulgarian National TV) coomonly used by lecturer in class.

Guidelines

The resource can be used for listening comprehension, oral communication, acquisition of specialized vocabulary and writing skills.
Level A2-B2; can be extended to C1, together with other sources.
Various types of activities can be suggested:
In conversation, students identify the context of communication and the topic, the participants interacting in the dialogue, the relation between them three characteristics of each of the participants
Expected results:
Exposure to contextualized genuine spoken language
Students acquire the specialized vocabulary related to the topic of source.
Students gain knowlege of specific local aspects and problems both from a general broad and specific cultural point of view and from a business perspective; and from an industry-specific point of view (medicine, hospitality industry, economics, sociology).
Source stimulates creative approach to writing,
1. Lecturer introduces topic to student/group/class> Christian Orthodox, Jewish and Muslim landmarks in Bulgaria.
2. Lecturer gives key vocabulary by summarizing the main points about different ethnic and religious groups in Bulgaria: benefits, logistic details, added value.
3. Pair and group work: learners are given cut-out sections from material / content.
Task: investigate, present, discuss.
4. Homework: create similar content on another topic chosen from brochure.

An engaging and entertaining resource by its power. By bringing in these short presentations and lectures, these materials enhance language skills and responsibility for the world cultural heritage and spiritual values of various ethnic communities.
