The resource may be used in its entirety as a guidebook as it first provides the theoretical background into the selected approach and then a number of activities aimed at enhancing the learner's critical thinking skills as well as the exploratory environment of a history class. One activity, for instance, is An Avatar (p. 17 ff.), in which the participants are placed in a given historical context and are asked to respond to a specific event. This role-play is carefully explicated, its didactic goals and objectives presented and motivated, following which illustrative examples are provided. Another example is emotion cards (pp. 27-28), which may be printed, cut out and distributed to students to speak about their emotions upon covering a given topic, thereby raising their awareness of both the complexity of the phenomena explored as well as their own personality.
