BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANISATION
The Petroleum - Gas University of Ploiesti was founded in Bucharest in 1948 under the name of the Oil and Gas Institute. From the beginning, the institute's main objective was providing higher education training for specialists for the main branches of the oil and gas industry in Romania. The establishment of this institution occurred as a natural consequence of the experience of Romanian specialists, the technical and scientific level of achievements in the field of oil and gas industry in our country. In 1992, the Oil and Gas Institute became the University of Ploiesti. The transition to the status of a university was necessary due to the emergence of new faculties and departments in the area of Humanities and Economic Sciences. For a better representation of both tradition and its modern structure, the name of the University of Ploiesti was changed in 1993, to that of “Petroleum and Gas” University of Ploiesti.
Currently, the academic structure of UPG includes 5 faculties: The Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, The Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, The Faculty of Petroleum Technology and Petrochemistry, The Faculty of Economic Sciences, and The Faculty of Letters and Sciences.
